Re:zero season 2. There’s a new method for getting Shiny Pokémon in Ultra Sun and Moon. Wormhole Running makes farming for shinies easy — easier than every before — and it practically guarantees a shiny with a few hours of effort. That sounds like a lot, but when it comes to finding shinies in the wild, that’s a godsend we’ve never seen before in any previous Pokémon.
Wormhole Running is exactly what it sounds like — instead of getting into endless Pokémon battles and trying to farm S.O.S. Pokemon until a rare shiny appears, you can instead use your skills in and Ultra Wormhole. The further you travel (measured in Light Years) in this minigame, the higher your chances will be of encountering an honest-to-god shiny Pokemon. Check for virus in linkedin. Normally, these guys appear about 1% of the time — your chances are much, much better here.

How To Get Shiny Pokemon
Shiny Pokémon are super-rare variants of regular Pokémon. They’re purely cosmetic, but finding a shiny Pokémon can drastically increase your trading ability — also, they’re totally awesome. Shiny Pokémon are the rarest finds, but there are ways to make farming a whole lot easier. In this instance, we’ll be using Ultra Wormholes to speed up the shiny Pokémon farming process.
Ultra Wormholes are available after you become Alola Champion, and are located in the Altar of the Sunne / Moone.
- The ‘Wormhole Running’ Method
- Enter the Ultra Wormhole to start a mini-game — at 3,000+ Light Years, you’ll begin increasing your chances of finding Shiny Pokémon.
- Travel further than that, and your chances will continue to increase.
- Playing with Ultra Wormholes, it’s possible (and probable) to find about 1 Shiny Pokémon per hour.
Not only that, but Shiny Pokémon can be “soft reset” — whether a Pokémon is shiny or not is determined when you enter a wormhole. Nature and IVs are determined when you enter the battle — meaning you can reset the Pokémon and try for better quality Shiny Pokémon.
While Wormhole Running, Pokémon in wormholes discovered at high LY (Light Years) will always have at least 3 Perfect IVs.
IMPORTANT NOTE: To improve Wormhole Running, you can change your controls from Motion-Controlled to D-Pad-Controlled. That gives you much, much more fine control, making it easier to reach a higher LY.
How To Change Ultra Wormhole Controls: Go to Heahea City, Akala Island and enter the GameFreak Offices and talk to the Aether scientist on the left. He’ll swap controls for you.
The further you travel, the higher your LY, and the more likely you are to encounter powerful, competitive Shiny Pokémon. For more help learning about Ultra Wormholes, scroll up and check out our full Legendary Pokémon guide to see which Pokémon will appear in every type of Wormhole.

Whenever I try to soft reset holding R + L and pressing Select or Start nothing happens. Do I have to do something to my DS or something?
I have the most recent update for Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

Make sure you are holdingL and R when you push Select or Start.
It's more than likely that one of your bumper buttons are broken. A hard knock such as dropping your 3DS would be enough to break the buttons.
You can test if it's the buttons by running a simple test:
Exit the Pokemon Game, and whilst on the Home menu, alternate between pressing L and R - you should see each button light up the outlines in the bottom right of the top screen (The place where it says holding both should launch the camera). If one doesn't light up, you know it's that button which is broken.

I've already completed the game 3 times and I only recently found out about Soft Resetting. I wanted to try it but after 17 on Heatran, I got really Impatient.
If anyone has an easily explained tutorial on how to soft reset and how to automate this, please tell me because I'm itching to get a shiny legendary.

'Soft-Resetting' just means restarting the game without quitting out first.
- Save in front of the legendary Pokemon
- Start the battle
- If it's not shiny, press and hold L+R and press either Select or Start to perform a soft-reset.
- The screen will go black and the game will start loading the title screen.
Notes
- Some legenaries are still shiny-locked (At this stage believed to be only Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza), therefore you cannot get them Shiny.
- The chance of encountering a shiny is really low, and no different between regular wild Pokemon and legendaries.
- It's a 16/65536 (1/4096) chance of finding one, or 0.0244%.
In response to your edit:
What you are effectively doing by soft resetting is dice-rolling until you get a certain number, except in this case the dice has 4096 sides.
To automate the process you would need everything from a program that can tell whether a Pokemon is shiny, to somehow automatically pushing the buttons (using robotics or directly soldering your 3DS). Needless to say, automation is not really an option unless you're willing to do some heavy modification to your 3DS. See BlueRaja's answer for options to do so
If you are adamant about saving time, you could change the Pokemon to be shiny after its caught using a Powersave/Action Replay device. Do note that this is directly cheating and generally frowned upon by the wider community (so is soft-resetting according to some purists but it's less frowned upon than Powersave).

Actually, it is possible to automate the process. However, it involves taking apart your 3DS and requires quite a bit of hardware knowledge, and so is not for the faint of heart.
Here is a link to the original 'automatic shiny finder,' and here is a link to someone who was able to successfully recreate it. Here is a link to a different one, which uses a similar method to achieve the same result.

Shiny Pokémon are prized additions to any trainer’s game and in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon there are even more methods to obtaining these rare variations of Pokémon.
Of course, Shiny Pokémon don’t have any altered stats or move sets they just give a rare alteration to the color scheme but they are coveted by all trainers.
Pokemon Soft Reset Counter
Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon retain some of the same methods to obtaining Shiny Pokémon as past games but there’s also a brand new method.
Here’s all the ways to get a Shiny Pokémon in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
How To Soft Reset In Pokemon Insurgence
RANDOM ENCOUNTER
The most tried and true method to finding Shiny Pokémon. Just by exploring and walking through grass, water and caves you have a chance to encounter a Shiny Pokémon.
However, this is completely random and the odds of you encountering a Shiny Pokémon is very low. The odds to finding a Shiny Pokémon this way is 1 in 4096 from Pokémon X and Y onward. This is a slightly better chance than the 1 in 8192 it used to be.
SOFT RESET
There are certain parts of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon that an encounter will be determined. This is namely when you choose your Starter Pokémon and encountering a Legendary Pokémon.
There’s a very slim chance to obtaining a Shiny Pokémon in these scenarios so if you don’t get a Shiny Starter or Legendary, you’ll need to soft reset.
Simply by pressing L + R + SELECT you’ll reset the game to your last save. In Ultra Sun and Moon , Legendary Pokémon aren’t shiny locked so when you are about to encounter them in the Ultra Wormhole (see below) save and soft reset until you get a Shiny Legendary.
MASUDA METHOD
This technique was named after the Pokémon developer Junichi Masuda who was the first to reveal this method. Introduced in Generation 4, the Masuda Method allows trainers to breed a shiny Pokémon with the stats, moves and abilities they want instead of searching the wilds for one.
How the Masuda Method works is you’ll have to breed two Pokémon who originate from different regions of the world. So your Squirtle from Japan and your Tyrunt from North America -- just as an example.
You have them breed until a Shiny Pokémon is hatched. The rate at which this happens is 1 in 1365.3 in Generation 5 -- and is even lower in Gen 6 and possibly in Gen 7 but no concrete number is known.
This method takes some patience but it definitely works to breed a Shiny Pokémon for competitive battling.
S.O.S BATTLES
Similar to Sun and Moon , S.O.S battles return and is a good way to shiny hunt. While there isn’t a concrete method found, a lot of trainers have figured out that ally chaining works and you’ll need an Adrenaline Orb, an item you can purchase early in-game. When you encounter a wild Pokémon use an Adrenaline Orb on your Pokémon and the wild Pokémon will call for help.
Here’s a flowchart of the steps needed to chain for a Shiny Pokémon.
Mount and blade rebellion bug. Wild pokemon -> adrenaline orb -> call for help -> KO one of the two mons, doesn't matter -> call for help -> KO mon -> call for help -> KO mon -> ETC..
The method not only increases the chance of Shiny Pokémon encounters but each new Pokémon that appears will have a chance to get a Hidden Ability and have better EVs.
If you get a chain of 70+ defeated Pokémon, the chance of a Shiny Pokémon appearing rises to 1 in 1024 chance.
ULTRA WORMHOLE
In Ultra Sun and Moon , the Ultra Wormhole will allow for not only catching Ultra Beasts and Legendary Pokémon but to find Shiny Pokémon.
When flying through the Ultra Wormhole, the further you go the higher the chance of encountering a Shiny Pokémon. To go further, grab the orange orbs of energy to pick up speed and go further.
Going through a wormhole will put you in a new area with a Pokémon encounter. The Shininess of a Pokémon is determined here so we recommend you save at this point so if it is a Shiny Pokémon you can soft reset for the desired nature and IVs.
As for Shiny Legendary Pokémon, you can just soft reset them to be shiny like you would any other Pokémon in any other part of the game.
